Interview with me. By me:
-Experience with music:
I like music since I was a child. I used to listen to some New Age, classical and even Elton John. Yes, I know it's weird. When I was 12 or something I started to dig some soundtrack albums, especially the one from the first Mortal Kombat movie (my first contact with metal, yay).
I only had the balls to learn how to play an instrument when I was 14 years old, when I decided to take acoustic guitar lessons, but after 6 months I was bored to death and dropped out. Well, I wanted to play electric guitar but my mom wouldn't let me. So, as a pissed off teenager like I was, I formed a band with some school buddies and picked my friend's guitar (which eventually I bought). We played some pop/rock tunes and struggled to find a good singer, but it all ended soon enough (we all sucked) and I went to pursue my "solo" carreer, which was not actually a carreer, it was just a hobby.
I started to record my own music with my pc, a cheap mic, cheap amp and cheap guitar with cheap pedals. By the time I left that first band I was playing guitar and using drum loops to back me up in those recordings. Eventually I started to record bass and make more complex drum loops, but things got really going when I started to fool around with Fl Studio. Man, that softwares kicks some major ass.
With Fl Studio mastered, I started to look for some better samples, and even started to use pianos, cellos and other stuff I couldn't even dream of playing in real life. Awesome. I'm almost 23 now, and I'm still studying recording, mixing and mastering techniques, on my own of course. Got a nice Ibanez guitar and some Boss pedals, but the mic is still cheap and the amp too. Oh, and I started to learn (by myself again) how to sing, but I'm still working on it. Recently I formed my own band to play those compositions. Hell yeah.
Influences:
Well, my first influence of all, I think, was Yanni. Yep. That moustache-stuffed face actually made me really enjoy music. And then there was Elton John. I was like 9 years old at that time. Yes, I liked soft piano-driven music, so what?
Then I started to love movie soundtracks, and the one that really influenced me was the Mortal Kombat movie one, like I said before. I actually started to like rock and metal because of that album! KMFDM was the heaviest thing I could possibly think of at that time.
And then... Metallica. Oh man. That band opened up my mind like no other. From there I started to like progressive rock, progressive metal and eventually jazz and fusion. Currently I love everything from Yanni, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Opeth, Pain of Salvation to Kool and The Gang, Victor Wooten, Joe Satriani, etc.
What's with those Donkey Kong covers?
Well, I loved playing Donkey Kong Country when I was only 8 years old, and bought every game from that series. The interesting thing is, I always loved the soundtrack. I was not even close of picking an instrument to play and I was already overwhelmed by those tunes. Talk about destiny. Not really.
I started to fool around with my recording gimmickry and started to make the Aquatic Ambience cover. At the time it was no big deal, but then I decided to put it on you tube. Man. I never expected I would get so much recognition for it! Oh, the power of the web! Since people liked it so much, I recorded the Roller Coaster and the Factory theme too, to some positive feedback as well. And, since I was enjoying some sort of success because of those covers, I started puting videos of my own songs (I'm cheap, I know) and, fortunetely, the feedback was positive too. Feew!
And what's with those drawings?
I always liked to create cartoon characters, especially in math classes. Not a big deal, it's just for fun!
Do you really think people are going to read this?
No way, I know they only care for the Donkey Kong covers, but at least I have a biography on the web! It's written by me, and I'm talking to myself now but that's ok! I'm good with that!
